  5. Military • Mission clearly defined • Resources assigned • Seeks mission accomplishment

  6. Corporate • Mission clearly defined • Resources provided • Profit motive – seeks customers

  7. Keys to Success • Do your homework – stereotypes are rampant(all politics are local). • Don’t expect immediate buy-in. • Answer the “what’s in it for me” questions ASAP. • Don’t give up (Faculty Senate mentality)

  8. Keys to Success • Seek common ground. • Leverage your numbers. • Be creative.

  9. Important Players • Dedicated staff officer • Single higher ed POC(state level if possible) • Highly skilled technical staff • Motivated soldiers

  10. Summary • Higher education is conditioned to compete(internally/externally). • The National Guard has a great deal to offer higher education. • Higher education has a great deal to offer the National Guard • True collaboration is possible.

  11. Summary • Collaboration must start early. • Combining technical resources works well. • The National Guard and higher education are natural partners.
