  2. Background The Connecticut School Health Survey Youth Behavior Component Developed by the CDC and modified by CT Administered to Wallingford high schools October 2013 About 1700 usable surveys

  3. Students describing health as excellent or very good 64.8% of students describe their general health as Very Good or Excellent In a classroom of 30, that’s about 19 students

  4. Grades in school mostly A's or B's 81.1% of students say their grades are in general, A’s or B’s In a classroom of 30, that’s about 24 students

  5. Episode of Depressed mood 25.1% of students said they had a 2 week episode of feeling sad or hopeless in the past year In a classroom of 30, that’s about 7 or 8 students

  6. Substance Use and abuse: Cigarette smoking 8.9% of students report smoking cigarettes in the past month In a classroom of 30, that’s about 3 students

  7. Substance Use and abuse: Alcohol 27.4% of students report drinking alcohol in the past month In a classroom of 30, that’s about 8 students

  8. Substance Use and abuse: Alcohol 13.6% of students report binge drinking in the past month In a classroom of 30, that’s about 4 students

  9. Substance Use and abuse: marijuana 28.9% of students report ever trying marijuana in their life In a classroom of 30, that’s about 9 students

  10. Substance Use and abuse: marijuana 16.8% of students report using marijuana in the past month In a classroom of 30, that’s about 5 students

  11. Substance Use and abuse: Over-the-counter drugs 5.8% of students report ever taking OTC drug to get high in their life In a classroom of 30, that’s about 2 students

  12. Substance Use and abuse: Prescription drugs – lifetime use 5.6% of students report ever taking an Rx drug to get high in their life In a classroom of 30, that’s about 2 students
