  2. Subject • The subject tells whom or what the sentence is about. • My drink was hot after sitting in the sun. • You can have more than one subject, called a compound subject. • “The hamburgers and hotdogs are ready!” Dad shouted.

  3. Verbs • A verb is the main word or word group that tells something about the subject. • Verbs may show action, but they will not always show action. • She answered every question on the review guide. • The little boy was slowly walking down the street alone.

  4. Verbs…continued • Sometimes you can have more than one verb in a sentence, called a compound verb. • The athletes jumped and shouted when their school’s name was announced. • Dogs all over the country barked and howled in unison.

  5. You try… • Open your grammar workbook to p. 12. • Complete exercise A on p. 12 and all of p. 13. • This material will be on Friday’s test.
