  1. ETMS – Prague meeting Nordregio collection (NUTS level) 16th of October 2012, Stockholm

  2. Nordregio collection: gaps • Goal: At least 3 years covered since year 2000 for ESPON countries • Focus on filling gaps for the EU28+4 countries • EU28+4: most of the identified gaps were for Lichtenstein followed by Switzerland • Lichtenstein, still missing: • - At-risk-of-poverty-rate • - Income as PPS based on final consumption per inhabitant • - Share of renewable energy in final consumption • - Total Intramural R&D Expenditure in Millions of PPS • Some variables and countries (Germany, UK): only data on NUTS1 level: “at-risk-of-poverty-rate” and “households with broadband access” indicators • Changed administrative regions (Germany, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland): data is missing for certain regions for almost all variables. NSI’s contacted for estimations or methods to calculate not much response yet

  3. Nordregio collection: RIATE (ESPON DB) • RIATE (ESPON DB/M4D project) was contacted for calculated transfer keys from 2006 to 2010 NUTS and pre-2010 data • Goal for ESPON to create longer time series (and to get more data in the NUTS2010 nomenclature) but due to a limited budget and the time needed not much has been completed • Some reports produced on methods to deal with the changing regions due to “territorial split”. Four possible methods were highlighted in the “ESPON M4D – First Interim Report”: • the ESPON OLAP Cube • gridding and smoothing • The smallest common part • Estimation of missing values thanks to other statistical dimensions • Technical report: “Missing data related to the change in NUTS structure” from June 2013 contains methods for possible usage • Pre-2010 data: Not much from the NUTS2006 datasets, but that they have the entire NUTS1999 Eurostat DB

  4. Western Balkans • Western Balkans not in focus so far • We could add population data that we already received (to be aggregated from LAU level), but time consuming • Possibility to add ESPON ITAN data (collected by CNRS EVS) • Further inquiries with NSI’s and similar institutes for data that we now miss entirely?

  5. Specific issue: Share of Renewable Energy in Final Consumption • Has been found on NUTS0 level only • Eurostat: “Share of Renewable Energy in Final Energy Consumption by NUTS 2 regions - %” [env_rfec] is not comparable to “Share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption” [nrg_ind_335a] • “Share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption” [nrg_ind_335a] seems to be of better quality and the one that is a EU2020 indicator  was chosen • EEA and IEA: no regional data for this indicator • NUTS0 level, other sources/indicators: • Energy prices? http://www.energy.eu/ “Natural gas, electricity and transport fuels prices” • Housing and building-related energy consumption: http://www.entranze.enerdata.eu/
