  2. Law Enforcement • I chose this topic because I thought it would be interesting to learn about something so important in our society • This topic is a stretch for me because all the prior knowledge that I had on this topic was based on unrealistic TV shows

  3. History • Medieval times Feudal Lords would appoint Sheriffs to collect taxes and maintain the peace • Sheriff’s judgment was clouded by what the lord wanted • England’s night watch system was the basis for modern Law Enforcement

  4. History • Modern methods of organized crime fighting techniques and standards did not come about until the early 20th Century • Sir Robert Peel established the first official police organization in England in 1829 (Bobbies) • Boston, Philadelphia and New York (1844) established some of the first modern police departments in the United States
