June 9th • THURSDAY JUNE 9TH Starting at 2:00 • Students will called down to Room 130 – Mrs. Goyns to pick up their grad cap and gowns • $20 cash deposit is due at that time~it will be returned to you when you return your grad gown • Students will then be taken to the Lookout by bus for the traditional group grad photo. • Students will then be taken by bus to the Curling Rink for a rehearsal • Hang up grad gowns in PV change rooms • Rehearse entrance, seating, receiving diplomas, photo opportunities, etc • Students will then return by bus to Kal • Speakers will stay and practice their speeches

  12. June 10th • FRIDAY, JUNE 10TH • 1:00 pm Informal friendship photos at Polson Park. • 3:00 pm Arrive at the Curling Rink and change into grad gowns (Changing rooms will be available). Students must dress formally under the grad gowns including dresses, dress pants, dress shirts and dress shoes. • NO INFORMAL WEAR. Grad caps will be carried, not worn, during the ceremony • 3:30 pm Line up for ceremony. • 4:00 pm Ceremony begins. • 6:30 pm Return gowns and collect $20 deposit. Students will keep their cap as a souvenir. • 6:45 pm Doors open for the banquet – Curling Rink • 7:00 pm Dinner is served. • 8:30 –11:00 Slide show, Student entertainment, and Dance • 11:00 pm Doors open for Dry After Grad - Vernon Rec Centre • 12:00 am Doors close for Dry After Grad. • 5:00 am Dry After Grad ends

Unfortunately, due to the size of our grad class, all entries exceeding 60 words will be edited. b. appropriate to the occasion. Remember, your grandmother is watching! All inappropriate entries will be replaced with a generic comment. • Due by: Friday, March 18th

GRAD SONG • To nominate a song that will help you to remember this year and your graduation from school . . .   • Select a song that you think has meaning to your grade, the year, or a special remembrance of your years in school. • Email a copy of the name and artist, lyrics and the song to mjorgensen@sd22.bc.ca by Friday, March 18th 2011 • Grad Committee will short-list nominated songs and prepare the ballot.  • The Grad Song will be voted upon, by ballot, at the same time as the vote for the Grad speakers.

VALEDICTORIAN DESCRIPTION CRITERIA high academic achievement demonstrated leadership in school activities such as athletics, clubs, fine arts excellent citizenship as evidenced by positive attendance, effort and discipline records • speaks at the formal grad ceremony (5-8 minutes) • represents grad class in honouring groups (parents, staff, community) who have helped graduates reach this achievement • may impart some “words of wisdom” to classmates as they go forward to the next stage of their lives

HISTORIAN(S) DESCRIPTION CRITERIA good academic achievement demonstrated leadership in school activities such as athletics, clubs, fine arts good citizenship as evidenced by positive attendance, effort, and discipline records a member of the grad class for a significant number of years, preferably since elementary school appropriate demonstration of sense of humour • speaks at the banquet (5-8 minutes) • highlights the progress and achievements of the entire grad class from K – 12 in various areas (academics, service, fine arts, athletics) • includes as many different students/groups as possible • usually includes some humourous anecdotes

  19. MASTER OR MISTRESS OF CEREMONIES DESCRIPTION CRITERIA good academic achievement demonstrated leadership in school activities such as athletics, clubs, fine arts good citizenship as evidenced by positive attendance, effort, and discipline records experienced in public speaking or presentations • ensures a smooth flow of events at the banquet (speakers, buffet, performances, thanks, dance) • reads a grace before the meal • introduces the historian, student performers • gives a toast to parents and to teachers • presents individual thanks to parents and teachers on behalf of the grad class • delivers announcements and instructions as needed

  20. PERFORMERS DESCRIPTION CRITERIA accomplished/experienced in an entertainment area good citizenship as evidenced by positive attendance, effort, and discipline records • provides after-dinner entertainment • must be a vocal music performance • maximum of two groups will be selected • accompaniment must be performed by live musicians (no tracks) • preference will be given to performers who write their own song about graduation, school friends, etc.

  21. INTERESTED? WHAT TO DO PROCESS Members of Kalamalka staff will review the application forms All students who meet the criteria will be put on the ballot Members of grad committee will come to classrooms for your vote • Pick up an application form in the office  • write a short paragraph explaining why you believe you would be qualified for the above role as outlined in the criteria on the form. • Complete the application form and return to the office by Friday March 18th , 2011.
