A case studyBackground to the partnership • Partnership established in 1997 providing students at levels 2 and 3 to SSM BA (Hons) Tourism Management • Over 1997 – 2006 period 210 students have benefited from this transfer agreement – high quality students with an average grade of 63% • 2002 similar partnership established with sister college International University of Applied Sciences, Bad Honnef to SSM BA (Hons) Hospitality Management • Over 2002 – 2006 period almost 100 students have benefited from this transfer agreement – high quality students with an average grade of 60% • 12 students have progressed to SSM MA courses • Currently 40-50 students at level 3 each year

A case studyBackground to the partnership • From 1999 SSM have provided 2 – 3 lecturers each year to deliver both SSM and local modules to German students at levels 2 and 3 • 2001 Research fund established for collaborative research between the 3 institutions • May 2005 SSM MA Tourism Management validated for joint delivery at Ecole de Management de Normandie on full time basis • Nov 2005 SSM MA Tourism Management and MA Hospitality Management validated for joint delivery at ABS on a part time basis

A case studyMA delivery at ABS, Freiburg • University of Brighton administered award • Programme delivered on a 70% SSM : 30% ABS basis • Modules shared according to local expertise • All taught modules (6 x 20 CATS) delivered by 2 x 3 day workshops with a 5 week interval – 2 assessments • Same assessment activities as SSM based students • Dissertation input and supervision shared • Underlying principle of students having an equal experience at any institution • Access to satellite, local university and University of Brighton on-line library resources
