  3. Practice Board Speech Dates! • You can swap around spots (either within a day or between days). • Take 5 minutes to negotiate with each other, and let me know TODAY if you’re changing anything. • After today, no changes will be made! • Looks good? Write down your date in your planner and/or on the orange sheet! Remember- you must be prepared on your assigned date for credit!

  4. Practice Board Speech Times • P:\Senior Project\Speeches\Practice Board Speeches 1st period.docx • P:\Senior Project\Speeches\Practice Board Speeches 2nd period.docx • P:\Senior Project\Speeches\Practice Board Speeches 3rd period.docx

  5. Personal Writes • Trade with a partner or a small group of people to read over the piece. • Use post-its or write on the paper itself (check with the writer!) if you have any suggestions, see any errors, or have any comments • When you’re done, either take it home to edit, or file it away in your portfolio folder!

  6. Bellwork 4/18/14 • What patterns have you seen in Holden’s behavior? • How have you seen his behavior shift in the last few chapters? • Anything concerning you’re noticing about his behaviors?

  7. What if it’s outside of his control? • The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (or DSM-IV) is the set of guidelines developed by the American Psychological Association to aide in the proper diagnosis of a variety of mood, social, and personality disorders • It was developed in the early 1950’s and has been through 5 revisions • Appropriate use of the diagnostic criteria is said to require extensive clinical training

  8. Your task(With the understanding that none of us are trained clinical professionals, this process is for literary analysis purposes only! Please be respectful of all conditions presented and considerate in your explanations and assumptions) • Read through the packet of selected DSM-IV conditions • As a group, decide which one you think is closest to what you know about Holden so far • Gather at least five pieces of evidence (including direct quotes, please!) from the text to support your diagnosis

  9. As you read Chapters 18-23: • Continue to gather evidence to support a “diagnosis” for Holden. • Jot down quotes, page numbers, notes that you could use to write a short report on his behavior • This will be one of your options to write about for Portfolio Piece #2! • Be ready to share your notes on Wednesday, April 23rd • Shakespeare’s birth- and death-day!
