  1. Use of AirView2 to improve Throughput Sanjaya Gurung Electrical Engineering University of North Texas

  2. Introduction(AirView2)

  3. AirView2(Spectrum Analyzer) • Wi-Fi spectrum analyzing tool (only for 2.4 GHz ) • used for optimizing 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Networks

  4. Technical Specification Sweep Range: 2399 - 2485 MHz (2.399 – 2.485 GHz) Step size/Interval: 500 KHz OR 3.7 Frames Per Seconds (FPS) Sweep time: 260 - 270 ms IEEE Standard: 802.11 b/g, n

  5. Frequency Scan Range 2.399 GHz 2.485 GHz North American channel system Channel spacing: 5 MHz Channel bandwidth: 22 MHz

  6. Output: Three Charts • Channel Usage Chart • determines the best channel to set up Wi-Fi network for optimal performance • Airview2 outputs the graph (% of Usage Vs channel frequency) which shows the relative crowdedness of that specific channel Channel 6 Highest usage

  7. Output: Three Charts • Real Time Chart • The graph shows real-time energy (dBm) of the 2.4 GHz signals as function of frequency • Airview2 outputs the graph (Power Vs channel frequency) which shows the crowdedness of that specific channel max. current avg. Blue shaded: Max. (update and hold max. level since the start of airview session Green shaded: Avg. (running average) Yellow solid line: Current (real-time energy)

  8. Output: Three Charts • Waveform Chart • The graph (Power Vs channel frequency) shows the aggregate energy (dBm) collected since the start of airview session Channel 1, 2 Higher occurrence Higher occurrence low occurrence Blue : energy appearing at a specific power with relatively low occurrence Green, yellow, orange: avg. occurrence at a specific power Red: energy appearing at a specific power with relatively higher occurrence

  9. Field Survey(using AirView2)

  10. Discovery Park-AirView(Nanostation disconnected) Channel 3 Channel 7

  11. Discovery Park-AirView (Nanostation connected) Channel 3

  12. 2.4 GHz signals around DP_WS

  13. EESAT-AirView(Nanostation disconnected) Channel 11 Channel 3

  14. EESAT-AirView(Nanostation connected) Channel 11 Channel 3 Channel 1
