  1. Barometer lab Daniela Carranco, Victoria Murgueytio and Macarena Ruiz “2C”

  2. Problem • Is the weather and climate affect the pressure here in Quito?

  3. Background • 1. A • 2. B • 3. B • 4. A • 5. 20.5 • 6. mass, density, pressure • 7. molecules push to all directions • 8. mill bars and inches of mercury • 9. C • 10. F • 11. G • 12. D • 13. A • 14. E • 15. B

  4. Variables • The time during the day is the independent variable and the air pressure is the dependent variable. In other words, the air pressure changes depending on the temperature and density of the air. One controlled variable is altitude.

  5. Hypothesis • If we use a barometer to measure air pressure in the morning and in the afternoon then it will be more high pressure because of the time will be more cold.

  6. Data Analysis

  7. Questions • 2- With the graph we realized that in the morning the changes are slower but more drastic. In the afternoon the changes occur in smaller amounts of time and the temperature is always between the 11 and 12 degrees. • 3- We were able to collect 14 data points. Yes I think this is enough data for conclusion making because it is enough days. Also enough times per day.

  8. Questions • 4- It is important so we now understand how the weather works and how it can affect us. • 5- Yes because it was accurate and it was much observed so it was right the data. • 6-Yes because it fill all the notes detailed and it had everything that was required. • 7- When it goes up is a sunny day. When is down it means is a colder day. • 8- In the morning is high pressure (sunny) and in the night is low pressure (cloudy)

  9. Questions • 9-It will didn’t work because all the air trapped inside will go out making it to stay in only one position and the needle wouldn’t go up or down. • 10-If the temperature gets down then there will be more pressure because the molecules in the jar start to move less causing high pressure.

  10. Conclusion: • During our barometer lab we faced some difficulties but it was fun and interesting to do it. One problem we face was that we add too much glue in the barometer and that didn’t allow it to move according to the air pressure giving us different results. Our hypothesis was wrong; the results were the complete opposite, instead of the pressure becoming higher in the evening it decreased. In the morning the air pressure changes were really big and they happened in big amounts of time. In the evening the changes were small and each evening the pressure decreased.
