Legislative Branch • This division/branch of government debates, amends and passes legislation (i.e. – laws) • Its members are mostly elected officials: • Members of Parliament, Senate (not elected) (federal) • Members of Legislative Assembly (provincial) • Councillors (municipal) • The legislation this branch creates are not just for criminal matters, but every aspect of daily life (pollution, internet, drivers’ licenses, etc.)

  4. Executive Branch • This division/branch of government sets policies for the legislative branch’s proposed laws and administers the laws created by the legislative branch • Its members are appointed officials: • Ministers • Prime Minister (federal), Premier (provincial), Mayor (municipal) • Bureaucracy (public service officials)

Judicial Branch • This division/branch interprets and enforces the laws created by the legislative branch • Done through the various courts: • Federal = • Supreme Court of Canada • Federal Court of Canada • Tax Court of Canada • Provincial = • BC Court of Appeal • Supreme Court of BC • BC Provincial Court
