  2. What’s the Difference and Why is it Important? “Leadership is the ability and the willingness to influence others so that they respond willingly.” “Power is the ability to make something happen.”

  3. Influence and VCM • Visioning Historical perspective, identifying present trends, perceiving their future outcome, concern for what could be, ability to identify signposts, ability to dream, to see and articulate a clear picture of the future.

  4. Influence and VCM • Gaining Commitment of others Communication style, patterns and abilities, level of trustworthiness, quality of your relationships, ability to listen, understand and respect the goals and dreams of others so you can match them with your own

  5. Influence and VCM • Monitoring, Measuring, Managing progress toward the vision Ability to design and follow significant measures of what you’re trying to accomplish

  6. Circles of Influence • People are more effective when their circles of influence are larger than their circles of concern. Worry about what you can influence: • God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
