  3. The students will be able to name the capital of Ohio. The students will be able to state Ohio’s bird, tree, and flower. The students will be able to recognize the Ohio flag. The students will be able to find Ohio on a map The students will be able to name and recognize the governor of Ohio. The students will be able to list 3 out of 5 people (from Ohio) and what they did to contribute to society. Objectives 3

  4. Materials • Books on Ohio • Computer/Internet • Paper, scissors, glue crayons or markers • Chocolate, peanut butter, frig., other ingredients for buckeyes • Tape player, tape of state song • Ingredients for salt map, markers, maps of Ohio to mark cities • Paper and marker for story 4

Activities • The class will make candy buckeyes • Tour the Neil Armstrong museum and write a short story together • Listen to the state song “Beautiful Ohio” • The students will each make a salt map of Ohio and label the major cities including the capital • Each student will make an Ohio flag. • Field trip to Air Force Museum, Annie Oakley Museum 6

  9. Ohio’s Tree • Buckeye Tree • Ohio’s nick name is the Buckeye State • Became the state tree in 1953 • Lose their leaves first at the end of summer • New leaves come first in Feb. • People can not eat buckeyes 9

  10. Ohio’s Flag • Adopted on May 9, 1902 • 3 red, 2 white stripes represent roads and waterways • 17 stars: 13 to represent the first 13 states in the union 4 more to make 17 • Ohio is the 17th state 10
