  2. Who are the people in our community? • Many children see community helpers as those people who wear uniforms or have jobs that we see or hear about on television. • Children often do not realize there are many other workers who contribute to a successful community.

  3. People Cont. • The purpose of this lesson is to help the children realize that it takes many, varied jobs for a city or town to work as a community.

  4. Police Officer • What is his/her job? • To protect us • To stop crime • To maintain the law

  5. Tools of the Trade • A police officer uses: • Radio • Police cruiser • Handcuffs • Gun • Mace • Asp ( nightstick)

  6. Mechanic • What is his/her job? • To fix broken things • To make new things

  7. Tools of the Trade • A mechanic uses: • Hammer • Screwdriver • Wrench • Car lift • Tire gauge • Pliers

  8. Nurse • What is his/her job? • To take care of the sick or hurt people

  9. Tools of the Trade • A nurse uses: • Stethoscope • Thermometer • Needle • Medicine • Bandages • Blood pressure cuff

  10. Teacher • What is his/her job? • To teach students about things • To give instructions • To show students how to do something

  11. Tools of the Trade • A teacher uses: • Chalkboard • Pens/markers • Books • Overhead • Paper/pencils • Grade book

  12. Dentist • What is his/her job? • To fix peoples’ teeth

  14. Bus Driver • What is his/her job? • To get people to places they want to go safely

  16. Fire Fighter • What is his/her job? • To put out fires and save peoples homes

  17. Tools of the Trade • A fire fighter uses: • Fire hat • Oxygen tank • Fire hose • Fire extinguisher • Fire hydrant • Axe

  18. Construction Worker • What is his/her job? • To build or fix roads, houses, buildings etc.

  19. Tools of the Trade • A construction worker uses: • Jack hammer • Drill • Hammer • Screw driver • Hard hat • Crane

  20. Student • What is his/her job? • To learn what is being taught • To do school work

  21. Tools of the Trade • A student uses: • Paper • Pencils • Books • Markers • Computers • Brains!
