HOMEWORK Guidance from Oakmeeds Homework Policy; Key Stage 3 The approximate guidance for time allocation is as follows. 1 hour per week on Mathematics 1 hour per week on English 1 hour per week on Science 1 hour per week on Technology 1 hour per week on Modern Foreign Languages 1.5 hours per week on Humanities, including Religious Education All students work at a different pace and it is expected that they allocate time to the project and produce work that does them, as an individual, justice.
Advice 2 Succeeding Together • Use a learn-and-help-learn framework. • Every word and action from parent to child sends a message • How do you use praise? Focus on processes – strategies, efforts, choices etc. • Watch and listen to yourself carefully when your child messes up – constructive criticism not “I wasn’t very good at maths when I was at school either so don’t worry” • Set goals your children can work towards – help expand skills and knowledge • Do not think of slower learners as children who will never be able to learn – believe in the growth of talent and intellect. • Ask for full commitment and full effort.
