Objectives • To define outreach • To understand why outreach is important to Women’s Ministries • To explore ways to reach out Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
This thing called Christianity is all about our glorious Christ Jesus and His passionate pursuit to find volunteer lovers of God whom He transforms to become deliverers of men. Mike Bickle quoted in Wasted on Jesus by Jim W. Goll Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Where are we now? • We desire to help and bless others and share eternal life. • We feel guilty that we don’t do a better job of evangelization. • We’ve tried to witness, etc. and have not felt successful. • We live in a world where nobody seems to be interested in Christianity. • WE CAN LEARN. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Why Should We? • He loved and gave. • He wants none to perish. • In order to believe, people have to hear. • We have been appointed ambassadors for Christ. (John 3:16) (2 Peter 3:9) (Romans 10:14-15) (2 Cor. 5:11-12) Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Lusanne Definition part 1 To evangelize is • to spread the good news that • Jesus Christ died for our sins • and was raised from the dead • according to the Scriptures, • and that as the reigning Lord • he now offers the forgiveness of sins • and the liberating gift of the Spirit • to all who repent and believe. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Lusanne Definition part 2 Our Christian presence in the world • is indispensable to evangelism, and so is that kind of dialogue • whose purpose is to listen sensitively • in order to understand. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Lusanne Definition part 3 • But evangelism itself • is the proclamation of the historical biblical Christ • as Saviour and Lord, • with a view to persuading people • to come to him personally • and so be reconciled to God. In issuing the gospel invitation we have no liberty to conceal the cost of discipleship. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
What is Outreach? • Christian outreach is evangelism. • It is welcoming others into the Body of Christ. • It is working to bless and help others so that we may share with them the message of salvation. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Why Haven’t We Done More Outreach? • We’ve wanted to personally focus on God and grow deeper spiritually. • We’ve been afraid of being “friends with the world” James 4:4, I Cor. 15:33 • Effective training has been unavailable. • Money, time, and energy have been a problem. • We are afraid of ridicule and rejection. • We’ve thought that only people with the spiritual gift of evangelism were needed. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
What Goes Wrong When We Do Try? • Poor preparation and planning bring poor results. • Poor follow-through produces shallow believers but few disciples. • We try to do spiritual work with natural means and end up with no spiritual victory. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
How Should We Be Doing It? Outreach must include the message of salvation—otherwise what we do and say is no different than what other “good groups” offer. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
How Should We Be Doing It? Effective outreach recognizes and uses all gift mixes, personalities and passions. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Let’s… Each of us is usually most comfortable in sharing Jesus in one of the above ways. Unbelievers have comfort zones, too. The key is to match the talkers with the talkers, the thinkers with the thinkers, etc. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
What must we include? • Love of God • His willingness to reconcile • Centrality of Jesus • Need for forgiveness • Hope of exchanged life Not every detail at every event. Not always formally, either. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Personal Testimony • Every leader should be able to give a precise, clear (not fancy) testimony. • Resources • www.5clicks.com • www.leaderu.com/touching/YourStory.html Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Telling Your Story • Before I received Christ… • How I received Christ… • Since I received Christ… Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
How Do We Get People To Listen To Our Message? • Understand the gap. • Bridge aspects of culture. • Put grace before truth. • Commit to process vs. event. • Plan conversations. Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
What Can A Women’s Ministry Do? • opportunities • training • connections • motivation We can provide: Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
Will Our Outreach Be Successful? • Work from a purpose and a goal • Put people before programs • Pray • Depend on God-power –not people-power Designiing a Women's Ministry: Part Three
