  6. What we ARE!

  7. Why do we analyze behaviors? • To figure out what the behavior gets or gets out of for the student • To determine what behaviors to teach • To determine motivators • To determine whether students are learning • To assess effects of our efforts

  8. Components of Instructional Programming • Task Analysis • Discrete Trial Teaching • Teaching Interactions • Instructions • Prompting • Feedback • Reinforcement • Data-based Decision Making

  9. The Role of Reinforcement • Provides a “reason” for the student to do that behavior again • Provides the motivation keep working until the task is done • Provides motivation for the student to behave well • “The effectiveness of a program will be largely dependent upon the strength of the reinforcers available for the student*” *Autism Partnership

  10. Behavior Management Strategies Used in FCPS ABA • Item/activity exchange • Token systems • Contingency contracts • Self-management • Continuous feedback • Social skills building

  11. On-line Resources for Parents • http://www.fcps.edu/dss/sei/ABA/index.htm - FCPS ABA website • http://www.autismpartnership.com/ - the consultants FCPS uses
