  1. William Penn(1644 - 1718) By: Caleb Einolf

  2. Brief review of William Penn’s childhood • Williams father was very rich • His father was also an admiral and • a close friend of the king ( King Charles 11 ) • At twelve years of age, his family moved to Ireland. • He was very well educated and went to the best college at a very young age: 16

  3. William Penn: A real Quaker Young William met Thomas Loe, a Quaker, who told him every man is equal and never take your hat off for anyone – even the king. William decided Thomas Loe was right and didn’t wear robes at school. William had to leave the school. It was against the law to be a Quaker at the time. Afraid the king would notice, his father sent him to France.

  4. Coming to Pennsylvania: When William’s father died, the king owed money to him. Since Williams father died, the king owed the debt to William. William didn’t want money, though. Instead, he asked for land in America. (Although you could argue that it wasn’t the kings to give…) William Penn’s plan was to make the new colony a religious freedom colony. His plan seceded! He made sure everyone who wanted to go there, got there and made the trips back and forth personally.

  5. Behind the bars: • William Penn was sent to prison many times. • Sadly, one of the times he was sent to jail, he died there • because of bad health on July 30th, 1718.

  6. Admiral Penn: • Admiral Penn is William’s father. William’s father was • also a good friend to the king.

  7. Some facts you might want to know: • William was born on October 14th , 1644 • William died on July 30th , 1718 in prison • People back then said “thee” and “thou”
