The TranzCoastal connects Kaikoura with Christchurch in the south and Picton in the north. The TranzAlpine connects with Greymouth on the West Coast. DRIVING ROUTE: Inland Scenic Route Part of the Alpine Pacific Triangle. CLIMATE: Temperate, relatively dry climate. Winter can be cold and frosts are not uncommon. SNAPSHOT: Visitors can try whale watching or an iceberg cruise or take time to explore Waipara wine region, a volcanic peninsula, alpine villages and natural thermal pools. WEST COAST FACTS www.westcoastnz.com AIRPORTS: (domestic) Hokitika Westport Greymouth TRANSPORT: Good road, bus and rail connections in and out of city. The TranzAlpine departs to Christchurch from Greymouth. CLIMATE: Temperate, high rainfall. SNAPSHOT: It is an area of mountain peaks, impressive glaciers, tranquil lakes and raging rivers, lush rainforest and a magnificent coastline

  8. LAKE TEKAPO Your clients can enjoy taking a scenic flight over the Southern Alps and Mount Cook, star gazing under one of the clearest night skies around or soaking in hot pools while gazing out over the lake.

  11. TRANZALPINE Named one of the World’s Great Scenic Train Journeys the TranzAlpine travels between Christchurch and Greymouth. Your clients will see the patch work plains of Canterbury, wind through gorges and river valleys before climbing over the Southern Alps and descending into Greymouth and the West Coast.

  12. NORTHERN WEST COAST The drive north from Greymouth to Punakaiki has been voted one of the great coastal road trips in the world. The Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki is a favourite stop for locals and visitors.

  13. GLACIER COUNTRY AND SOUTHERN WEST COAST Franz Josef and Fox Glacier descend down as far as the lower rainforests making them two of the world’s most accessible glaciers. A range of companies offer guided walking and heli-hiking excursions to explore the spectacular ice formations.
