What’s New? • Teacher Support Group: Planning a teacher support group to get more biotechnology into existing science courses interesting more students in science careers. Valdosta City will put a biotech course into place next year if enough students sign up, and Susan is trying to get a group of interested teachers together to offer ideas to each other. • Engineering Workshop for Girls • New businesses/industries for GIFT program • Person dedicated to promoting “Go for the Gold” to examinees • Facebook: Wiregrass Work Ready
Best Practices • Training teachers and letting them tell us what works and what doesn’t in their classrooms • Having a person dedicated to promoting gold which resulted in high gold rate (Berrien County) and which led us to expand this • Offering Locating Information training in face-to-face format for RIN and others
Issues/Concerns • Limited time during the sustaining grant to work with teachers (only one summer) • Impact that Federal formula for determining HSGR • Limited time to impact graduation rates for this year • Developing leaders for our region • Concern about whether federal budgetary changes to WIA funds will impact the sustainability grants
