  3. The Goal of HR Planning • The goal of forecasting and planning is to keep a stable workforce that meets the needs of the organization.

  4. Things to consider when Planning and Forecasting Human Resource Needs • Workforce Composition and Capabilities • Employee Inventory and the HRIS • Employee Succession Chart • An Organizational Chart with Names

  5. Things to consider when Planning and forecasting Human Resource Needs... • Information from Top Executives--mission statement, strategy, etc. • Financial, Sales and Production goals and objectives • Anticipated organizational changes

  6. Things to consider when Planning and forecasting Human Resource Needs... • Unit-employee Forecast • The number of employees required in various positions over the next two years. • Estimated yearly attrition in various positions. • Total employees needed.

  7. External Influences a) Local supply of labor b) Unemployment trends c) Economic conditions d) Activities of competition and clients e) Educational and Skill trends f) Changes in labor force

  8. End Result.... • The end result of the HR planning effort is a 1 to 3 year plan. This plan addresses staffing levels, training and development needs and resources required. • This plan provides the critical information needed for the Recruiting effort.
