  2. Moreno Valley College in partnership with Riverside County Sheriff’s Departmentoffers students the opportunity to sponsor themselves through the Law Enforcement Basic Academies

  3. Law Enforcement Basic Academies: Regular Basic Course- Intensive Format Regular Basic Course- Modular Format Basic Correctional Deputy Academy

  4. Entrance Requirements: • Age: Must be at least 20 ½ for Intensive & 18 for Modular & Corrections • Pass PELLETB written exam • Achieve an acceptable score on the Physical Fitness Assessment • Possess a valid CA Driver’s License • Medical Physical Exam • DOJ Clearance- Be free of any felony convictions

  5. Regular Basic Course- Intensive Format

Regular Basic Course- Intensive Format: • Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will receive certification to work as a peace officer in California while earning 39 college units towards an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice. • The academy is approximately 6 months long. (952 hours)

  7. Regular Basic Course- Intensive Format (cont.): • Schedule • The Academy is generally based on a 9 hour per day schedule, generally Tuesday through Friday and every other Monday from 6:00am - 5:00pm with some evening classes • Cost • The total cost is approximately $6,500.

  8. Regular Basic Course- Modular Format

Module 3 Academy: • Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will receive certification to work as a Level 3 Reserve Peace Officer in California while earning 6.5 college units towards an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice. • The academy is approximately 3 months long. (189 hours)

  10. Module 2 Academy: • Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will receive certification to work as a Level 2 Reserve Peace Officer in California while earning 11 college units towards an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice. • The academy is approximately 3 months long. (250 hours)

  11. Module 1 Academy: • Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will receive certification to work as a peace officer in California while earning 17 college units towards an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice. • The academy is approximately 6 months long. (474 hours)

  12. Regular Basic Course- Modular Format: • Schedule • The Academy is Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Nights from 6:00pm – 11:00pm and alternating Saturdays from 8:00am – 5:00pm hours (with an occasional Sunday). • Cost • The total cost is approximately $6,500.

  13. Basic Correctional Deputy Academy

  14. Basic Correctional Deputy Academy: • Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will receive certification to work as a correctional deputy in California while earning 13 college units towards an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice. • The academy is approximately 3 months long. (364 hours)

  15. Basic Correctional Deputy Academy (cont.): • Schedule • The Academy is generally based on a 9 hour per day schedule, generally Monday through Thursday and every other Friday from 6:00am - 5:00pm with some evening classes • Cost • The total cost is approximately $2,000.

  16. Financial Assistance: • Board of Governor’s Waiver • Pell Grants • Scholarships • Veteran’s Benefits • Student Loans • Unemployment Benefits • Workforce Investment Act Students should seek as many assistance programs as possible!

  17. Course Content: • Lifetime Fitness (Physical Training) • Defensive Tactics • Firearms Training • Scenario Testing • Report Writing • First Aid/CPR • Leadership, Professionalism & Ethics • Cultural Diversity & Discrimination

  18. Common Reasons Recruits Drop/Fail the Academy: • Lack of physical fitness • Lack of mindset (mental toughness) • Injuries/Illness • Failure of tests • Written (LD & Report Writing) • PT/DT • Scenarios • Firearms

  19. Academy Preparation Courses: • Introduction to Law Enforcement and Physical Conditioning for Basic Academy Students • Law Enforcement Pre-Academy

  20. By obtaining their certification prior to employment, they will be able to offer employers qualifications that others can’t!
