  1. Covenant University, Ota Executive Advance August 2015 THE VISION AND MISSION OF COVENANT UNIVERSITY PresentedBy:Dr. David O. Oyedepo Chancellor, Covenant University

  2. Preamble • When anyone’s goal becomes a task, all his senses will come alive, all his energies will be released. • The story of a 60-pounds weight woman scaling a 6-meter wall, being pursued by a mad dog!

  3. There is nothing mystical about excellence, it is a product of one’s tireless commitment to improvement. • One cannot be committed to a course and not be creative in his approach, and one cannot be creative and not productive, and one cannot be productive and not be successful and as one grows his success, he becomes impactful.

  4. Abraham Lincoln once said, ‘I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday’.

  5. Henry Ford once noted, ‘when you stop learning, you are old, whether at 20 or at 80 but when you keep learning, you are young, whether at 80 or at 20. The best thing to do is to keep your mind young.

  6. Everyone’s takes in life is a product of his thought. • For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he – Pro. 25:7 • Only those who think possibilities dare the impossible and delivers the unthinkable.

  7. I once discovered a statement, which appears to me as the motto of the American nation: ‘America, home of the free and land of the brave’. My Reaction: Only the brave ever become great.

  8. I then declared my own intellectual liberty; ‘It does not have to be white to be right’. • We all have equal rights to learning and thinking solutions, the colour or race, nothwithstanding.

  9. Oprah Winfrey once noted, ‘Excellence is the greatest deterrent to racism and sexism’

  10. Without a vision is a people made naked. This implies that vision is the custodian of colour and beauty of destiny.

  24. Let Us examine the Christian root of some of the world-class Universities. 1 Harvard University (oldest institution of higher learning in the US.

  25. Christian culture: Harvard made it a basic rule for learning that every student must understand that the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ is the only foundation for all sound knowledge and learning.

  26. 2 • Yale University • Established 1701. The institution is also founded on Christian doctrine and actually instructed her students to obtain the clearest conception of divine things and enforced concrete regulations to lead them to a saving knowledge of God in His son Jesus Christ.

  27. Princeton University • Princeton University demanded that every student attend worship in the College Hall morning and evening at the hours appointed and that they must behave with gravity and reverence during service. It was also mandatory for every student to attend Sunday service. 3

  28. 4 • Columbia University • Similarly, Columbia University would not accept any student that could not render in English the gospel from Greek.
