  6. George Bush decides to invade Panama • In 1978 the United States agreed to give Panama control over the Panama canal. In 1989 Panama’s dictator General Manuel Noriega had stopped cooperating with the United States and also aided drug trafficking, crackdown on opponents, and harassment of American military personal defending the canal.

  7. Panama dictator General Manuel Noriega • In 1983 Panama dictator General Manuel Noriega seized control of his country Panama and became head of the National Guard. With this new power he was able to manipulate the elections so the winning president would be his puppet leader.
