  1. Grammar Warm Up • Directions: Take each set of sentences and combine them into two compound sentences using the rules and tools. Six total sentences. • Semi colon • Comma and coordinating conjunction • I tried to speak Spanish. My friend tried to speak English. • The husband played video games. His wife went shopping. • Mr. Tuttle graduated from Appalachian State. His degree was in English, Secondary Education.

Vocabulary in Context • The amnesiac flipped aimlessly through the family photos he was supposed to recognize. • The theatre critic was capricious in the way he bestowed blame or praise—you could never tell what he was going to say! • Celebrities like Paris Hilton are incessantly callow, and have probably never had to work hard for anything they have.
