Exam – Final Paper A number of generalizations have informed our dialogue about Leadership in this course. These include: • Early life experience(s) shape leadership potential/qualities • Leaders must first demonstrate and then build their competence in some function or activity • Leaders take advantage of early leadership opportunities by moving decisively • Leaders tend to have individuals (mentors) whose advice or example has been decisive in shaping their own lives/styles
Exam – Final Paper • Leaders tend to create a success syndrome in which one success begets another in a cumulative fashion • Leaders understand and take advantage of key episodes (“defining moments”) to advance their cause • Transformational leaders have a particular portfolio of skills and approaches that enable them to drive significant change • Leaders with great success in one arena often under-perform in a very different situation Illustrate three of these points by reference to the life of the person whose biography you have selected (8-10 pages) Illustrate one additional point by reference to your own life/ career (2-3 pages)
