Marcus Garvey. By sherry Sah. Who is Marcus Garvey. He was born in St Ann's Bay, Jamaica August 17, 1887 and died on June 10,1940. He wanted African- Americans to have their own country. He created a “ Back to Africa” movement in civil rights.

  2. Who is Marcus Garvey • He was born in St Ann's Bay, Jamaica August 17, 1887 and died on June 10,1940. • He wanted African- Americans to have their own country. • He created a “ Back to Africa” movement in civil rights. • He was a political leader, publisher, journalist, businessman .

  4. “Africa for Africans” 3 T’s • The theme of the poem is that Marcus Garvey wants African- Americans to go back to the “homeland” (Africa). • The tone of this poem is very demanding because when “ Blacks” came to America they were slaves. Since, now they’re free. He wants them to go back to Africa and rule. • The technique of this poem that Marcus Gravey uses is rhyming. He often rhythms each stanza to have a interesting tone.

Marcus Garvey important to Harlem Renaissance • He advocated for black rights, helped contribute to the movement by writing, creating political groups. • Harlem Renaissance was a movement which produced a flowering of African American literature, poetry, music and visual arts. • He empowered African- Americans to add their voices to the mainstreams.
