General Graduation Requirementspage 2 in registration book 1.0 credit = year long course 0.5 credit = semester course Language Arts: 4 credits Speech 0.5 credits Mathematics: 2.0 credits with a grade of “C” or above Social Studies: 3 credits Personal Financial Literacy: 0.5 credit Science: 3 credits Physical Education 1.5 credits Fine Arts: 1 credit Business/Career/ Tech: 2 credits World Languages: 1.0 credit Electives: 6.5 credits Total credits needed to earn a SSHS diploma: 25 credits

Specific Courses Required Language Arts: English 9 (1 credit), American Literature (1 credit), World Literature (1 credit) Speech: Speech (0.5 credit) Math: 4 semesters of C or higher and proficiency on one of the following: • Scoring proficient or above on math portion of the 10thgrade CSAP • Scoring a 22 or better on the Math portion of the ACT • Achieving a college readiness score on the SAT (560+) • Passing the Math Proficiency Exam

  7. What about World Language? • There is now one credit required of World Language, however; many colleges require that students have successfully completed level 3 or higher of the same language. • If you registerto take a World Language you will be placed by teacher recommendation.

  8. How do you earn credits? • You must have a D or above to earn credit except in Math you must earn a C or above for it to count as a math credit. • If you do not pass a class you must either repeat the course or participate in credit recovery options. • For certain classes you may pass with a D but you may not be allowed to go onto the next level. • Eligibility

  9. Diplomas of Emphasispage 3 This special recognition is awarded to students who have explored a particular passion or curriculum area in greater depth. Recognition of the “Diploma of Emphasis” will include notation on student records, diploma and in the graduation program. A diploma with emphasis will provide a student’s recognition of additional effort. Students are expected to: * Demonstrate excellence in the courses that they are required to take. This could involve a minimum grade expectation for the courses, or assessments or both. * Provide a “real life” demonstration of their learning. This could be done in a variety of ways including a performance or exhibition, internship, exploration or other actual experience. * Demonstrate interaction with the community. Students should contact a teacher in the curriculum area of interest early in their high school career, if they have a desire to pursue such recognition.

Freshman Learning In a Team Environment (FLITE) The 9th grade required curriculum begins with the integrated core of: English 1 credit This course will require students to read a broad range of literature. The emphasis is on reading, writing, and other forms of communication including discussion, seminars and presentations. World Geography/Civics 1 credit The major areas of concentration are world cultures, physical geography and constitutional issues. Earth, Space and Physical Science (EPS) 1 credit This course uses the scientific process to discover and understand the basic concepts of chemistry and physics.

Daily Schedule • The high school has an alternating block schedule in which students attend each class for 95 minutes every other day. • The schedule is based on a RED Day (Periods 1,2,3,4) and an alternating WHITE Day (Periods 5,6,7,8). • Some classes are offered as a “0” hour on Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri. This class meets from 7:20am-8:15am. It is rare that Freshman are scheduled for a “0” class. • Most students carry four classes one day and three classes the alternate day. Anchor day includes an advisory period; other classes are shortened to compensate for this additional period each Wednesday.

  14. SKIER SCHEDULE & ZERO HOUR “0” Hour classes meet M, T, TH, and F and begin promptly at 7:20. Please be reminded that there are limited class offerings “0” hour and not all requests may be filled. There are limited O hour courses available to freshman. A Skier Schedule is an abbreviated schedule and is available only to qualifying students who are recommended by SSWSC. Freshman participating in skier schedules are encouraged to only have a partial skier schedule. Please review SSWSC's handbook for additional details. Skier Schedule is available contingent upon class availability.

Sample Course InterpretationPage 13 in registration guide AlGeo II 9, 10, 11, 12 1 credit Prerequisite: Successful completion of AlGeo I or Teacher recommendation As a potential math component of the FLITE, this is the second year of the integrated mathematics course. It completes coverage of basic Algebra I and Geometry subjects. It includes extensive strands in probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, logical reasoning and measurement. The course will demand critical thinking and extensive problem solving skills. AlGeo II emphasizes connections among mathematical topics and real world applications. Students will learn to work on their own and in cooperative groups, completing projects designed to demonstrate knowledge of mathematics and applications to life.
