  2. The Nevada Department of Transportation partners with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) division • The goal of this partnership is to utilize technology to better manage traffic

  3. Traffic Management • The RTC’s FAST division is responsible for monitoring and managing traffic in Southern Nevada • FAST coordinates signal light timing and operates and maintains freeway ramp meters, dynamic message signs and closed-circuit television cameras for the region

  4. Traffic Management • Better traffic management helps to: • Reduce congestion • Improve reliability • Improve safety • Improve air quality

  5. Added Benefits • Commuters can receive information about their commute in advance via e-mail or text message • More than 1,300 residents currently receive these alerts via text or e-mail message • More than 610 alerts have been sent so far this year; these alerts provide messages are similar to those that appear on the freeway dynamic message signs • Partnership with local television news stations help to further spread the message • More than 200 live streaming cameras are also available on the RTC’s website; drivers can view these cameras in advance of their drive

  7. Technology • Flow detectors allow FAST to gather data on traffic volume and speed • There are more than 230 detectors along valley freeways
