First Person Point Of View • The definition of first person is a point where the narrator uses I or we in the story you are reading. • The narrator in the story may or may not be reliable. • The reader only gets one perspective if its first person. • An example of first person being used in this story is when the narrator says, “We were in the hospital every afternoon.” • Examples of other stories told in first person is: Alicia Erian’s novel Towelhead, Elie Wiesel book “The Night.”
Third person • The definition of third person is a form of story telling in which the narrator in the story relates the action in third person. • The narrator uses he or she in the story. • The third person can be limited or it can be omniscient. • An example is Jane Austen’s novel pride and prejudice. • An example of third person used in the story is when the narrator says, “He looked down at the machine and jerked his little hand out from between the straps and slapped it against his thigh.
