  2. Before the introduction of the arcade machine, the world was without video games. It’s a scary thought to even think back to that time before our culture was able to experience the joy of taking on the identity of a fictional character and fight to accomplish a task of epic proportions.

  3. These games took place for the very first time on a tiny analog screen encased in a box that was often larger than the person that was operating them. As large as these arcade machines were, they were remarkably limited in their capabilities. In the early days especially, these machines held only one game. For this reason, arcades were filled with dozens of these arcade machines so that customers would be able to play a large variety of games.

  4. As the video game market matured, entertainment companies addressed this issue by developing consoles with removable media. This way, owners of a gaming console could own multiple games that could be switched in and out of the gaming platform. This was a major development for anyone that played video games with any regularity, and it eventually resulted in the obsolescence of arcade machines altogether.

  5. While this transition in the market was almost exclusively a positive for consumers, many of these classic arcade games became unavailable to those that wished to continue playing them. The most popular arcade games found their way on to modern consoles, but any games outside of this elite group of “classic” titles were largely lost to the gaming culture completely. That is, until the dawn of arcade game emulation.

  6. The Internet became largely available to consumers around the turn of the century, and at that time, arcade game enthusiasts around the world began to work together to save these beloved titles from extinction. This was a long and laborious process, with hours upon hours of tireless programming and debugging to develop software that could even begin to see these games return to life.

  7. The concept was that these classic arcade games could be played by anyone using their PCs. This proved to be a challenging dream to realize, with many games obviously being difficult to obtain and then creating software that could consistently play these games so that consumers could use these emulators with a certainty similar to how they approached their other gaming consoles.

  8. Gameex.com in particular has done an exceptionally great job in seeing this dream become a reality. For over ten years, this company has developed a front end for other emulation software that makes the entire emulation process more user friendly, creating a more functional program that allows users to simply play their games and not spend countless hours troubleshooting their software.

  9. Using emulation, those gamers that are interested in the old games that arcade machines used to house can plug a controller straight into their PC and enjoy these retro titles with relative ease. If an easier emulation appeals to you, be sure to give this site and software a look to see all that it has to offer.
