  8. Whatis an Internship? ‘Internships provide real world experience to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular career field. You work in a local company usually with the support of a supervisor or mentor The experience gained can make the student have that ‘competitive edge’ in the university and job market

The EWS Post 16 Offer All Year 12 students will be given the opportunity to have an Internship as part of their studies We encourage students to find and arrange an internship or work placement that relates to the career they are interested in, with our support There is usually blocks of time on the students timetable when this can be arranged

  10. How can it impact onyour future? It makes your application stand out of the crowd in an increasingly competitive market – universities and employers are looking for that extra experience It enhances your interpersonal skills by working in an adult environment An internship gets you to know the industry and a company as much as possible – this may lead to an offer of a job now or in the future!

  11. How can it impact onyour future? The people you get to know on your internship can be powerful contacts when it comes to looking for jobs and job references. There is the opportunity to make friends, contacts and build relationships with other interns in the organisation.

  12. What will I learnand gain ? Internships provide practical experience They give a sample of life in a chosen field Provide networking opportunities Develop workplace confidence Practice using specialist skills and vocabulary amongst real world customers and colleagues

Support available Mrs Jordan, the All Together Guidance Professional will co-ordinate internships across the school She can offer support and throughout the process We will work with students who apply to EWS to start this process before September so they are ready to start their internship as soon as possible when they join the sixth form

  14. What are transferable skills? There will be enrichment opportunities to compliment your 4 subject choices in Year 12. This will help you become a well rounded Sixth Form student and provide you with the skills to succeed both during Sixth Form and beyond. All Universities and employers require young people with a range of transferable skills not just academic ones.
