  5. Adverbs • Adverbs are words that modify (describe) verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Verb: Stonehenge was built gradually. Adjective: This English monument is made of verylarge stones. Adverb: Scholars have studied Stonehenge quitethoroughly.

  6. Adverbs • An adverb can tell how, when, where, or to what extent about the word it modifies.

  7. Comparing with Adverbs • The positive degree describes one action or quality. • The comparative degree compares two actions or qualities. Add –eror more to the adverb. • The superlative degree compares three or more actions or qualities. Add -est or most to the adverb.
