  1. Attempts to Create Human Like Robots -Chris Millican

  2. What Makes defines ‘Human’? • Human Behavior can be defined as follows • Cognoscente thinking • Intrapersonal communication • Ability to adjust to an environment • Is it possible to mimic these behaviors?

  3. Cognoscente Thinking • Artificial Creativity • Branch of AI based on trying to make computers creative. • “What is creative?” • Can a computer ever be creative • Computer generated art (draw-something) • Is the program the artist or is it the programmer?

  4. Artificial Creativity • 3 Approaches • Emergent Property • Development of complex organized systems • Genetic Algorithms • Search technique used in comptuer to find true or approximate solutions to optimization and search problems. • Artificial Neural Networks • Interconnected group of artificial neurons that uses a mathematical model or computation model for information processiong based on a connectionist approach to computation

  5. Applications of Artifical Creativity • Computer Generated Music • Music composed by, or with extensive aide from, a computer. • Musikalisches Wüfelspiel • Uses the throw of a dice to create randomly generated music • Other uses • Linguistics • Automated Design • Automated Invention

  6. Intrapersonal Communication • There are several robotic approaches used to simulate the human sensors • Pattern Recognition • The act of taking in raw data and taking an action based on the category of the data • Examples • Optical character recognition • Speech recognition • Face recognition • Handwriting recognition

  7. Mimicking Humanity

  8. Mimicking Human Behavior • Hanson Robotics • Hanson Robotics is responsible for several realistic based robots such as the previously watched Jules, the famous Einstein Robot, and K-bot • Jules • Face Feature tracking • Interpreted visual data was assembled into a 3D world model and correclated with natural language processing • Frubber • Lifelike materials used that ultimately requires 1/20th the energy of other materials

  9. Mankind attempts to be robotic • I propose that robots are further towards being human than humans are towards being robotic?
