  1. Messages in Music Message sent through the video Just Like You by Three Days Grace

  2. Music • Used to express feelings and emotions and to provide feelings and emotions to audiences. • Can be pleasantness, intent social construction, or perceptual processes. • Uses subliminal messages that focus on your subconscious mind in order to express feelings

  3. Three Days Grace • In Three Days Grace’s music video Just Like You they are sending a message out through their lyrics and also through the visuals in the video • This message is saying “ Don’t let people control your life, you have to be your own person.”

  4. Just Like You Vocal Analysis Visual Analysis • The lyrics say things like being mean, angry, fake, stupid, cold, ruthless, and weak would be being just like a certain person and that person wants everyone to be like that. • It also says “ You thought you were there to guide me, you were only in my way.” This is saying that the person is trying to control everyone but they aren’t doing the right thing by this. • The vocals are basically saying that whatever the person is, is not what everyone else wants to be and that they want to be their own person without being pushed into something they don’t believe in. This could mean government laws, peer pressure, parental control.. Etc. • The video shows many people all lined up in the same outfits wearing the same masks, basically being just alike, with look a-like guards surrounding them as they watch a concert. This is showing that these guards are controlling all of these people to be the same. • The band is Three Days Grace and they are behind glass that hides the truth of how they really look from the viewers in lines. To the viewers they look the same as everyone else and aren’t doing much movement. • Then the glass is broken for everyone to see that they can be their own person and they overwhelm the guards and they all rip off their masks to show a diversity of many different people.

  5. This is what the people in masks look like in the video as they stand with the guards up in the top left making sure everything is in order.

  6. The Total Analysis • Through this analysis of the vocal and visuals of the video Just Like You the message that is sent to the audience gives you feelings of being free and not letting people overcome you. It shows you how if you see the truth you can be whoever you want to be and no one can control that. You need to be your own person no matter what the criticisms might be.
