  3. What is the liver? The liver is the largest organ in the human body and is one of the most important organs. The main job for the liver is to process the blood for the rest of the body. It converts food into a substance that we need for life and growth too.

  4. The Liver • The liver consists of 3 billion cells. It weighs three pounds and is reddish in color. It’s gourd shaped and is located behind the ribs in the upper right-hand portion of the abdomen.

  5. How it works • After you have eaten, all the vitamins and minerals will be cleaned by the liver during digestion. • Your liver makes something called bile which travels from the liver to the small intestine.

  6. Facts • An adults liver is about the size of a football. • Your liver is made of 96% water. • The liver can regenerate itself, even if its only 25% of it is still healthy!

  7. Taking care of the liver If you don’t take care of your liver, it could lead to lead to deadly diseases such as a Wilson’s Disease or even a coma. There are also risks if you drink lots of alcohol during a long period of time. To prevent this you should limit how much alcohol you drink at remember to eat right.
