Overview Goal: Provide an unified software application to process Excel, PDF, Word and other files. It helps project engineers (especially instrumentation control engineers) to easily and efficiently process large engineering Excel files. Allows project engineers to get with one click all information needed for design or configuration, also helps EPC engineers and designers to provide a high quality work package. Functions: Audit and modify engineering Excel files; create new engineering Excel files; customized search from related Excel, PDF and Word files; Get various statistics from different Excel files; Explore and manage all files in EDM job.
Open a new job and load related files to EDM database Project engineers and designers usually process different engineering files for different tasks at different times. In EDM we call these tasks jobs. When you start a new job in EDM, you will be asked to name the new job and load related Excel files to EDM Database first. For demonstration we created four Excel files with one sheet each. They are “Test Alarm Assignment.xls”, “Test External Cable.xls”, “Test Instrument Index.xls” and “Test IO Assignment.xls”. We open a new job named “Job For Demonstration”, and load the four Excel files to EDM Database.

Audit Excel Files It costs lots of time and human resource to find minor errors or incomplete data in large engineering Excel files. In order to help project engineers to find it easily and help designer to provide a high quality work package, EDM provides two auditing operations. One is general auditing: it is designed for general Excel files in all fields, such as finance, insurance, construction, engineering… The other is professional auditing, designed for instrumentation control engineering Excel files. In general auditing, EDM will check the key columns for missing data. In addition, EDM will check the key columns for differences in data between sheets.
Audit Excel Files This slide shows the setup in EDM to check for differences in the same columns between “Test Instrument Index” and “Test IO assignment”. Following slides will show you Excel and Word report of auditing result To check if “IO Type Name”, “System”, “PID Drawing” and “Instrument Module” have different data in Excel files “Test Instrument Index” and “Test IO Assignment”

Create New Excel Files Another highlight of EDM is the ability to help project engineers and designers to create a new Excel file easily The following demonstrates the ease to create a new Excel file in EDM. In this example EDM will create a new file with 5 columns. Setup in this example is: Created New File Name: Created by EDM for Demonstration Create New File by New Rule New Rule Name: The Rule for Demonstration In this example EDM will use rule “The Rule for Demonstration “ to automatically create the new file “Created by EDM for Demonstration” with five columns: Column 1 is directly from File1 column1 Column 2 is directly from File2 column2 Column 3 is related to File1’s column 3 and File2’s column 3; these two column value joined together by customized string “ This string is added by user and between File1 col3 and File2 col3“(typed by customer) Column 4 is a simple column with customer typed string “This string is added by user for column 4” Column 5 is without data in purposely
Create New Excel Files The setup for this example to create a new file named “New File Created by New Rule for Demonstration” with five columns • It is so easy to create a new file that you only need to do: • Give names to new file, new rule and new columns • Choose how to get data for new column • Type customized string for new column if it needs • Click “Add New Column” and “Create New File” buttons

Search Information Between Excel and PDF Files EDM has integrated the ability to process PDF, MS Word and Excel files in one software environment. Given to this project engineers and designers can search information which is related PDF and Excel files easily and efficiently. They can search any data of any column in File1 or File2 in any PDF file on same screen by double click. Double click any cell, immediately get what you want in PDF

Search Information Between Excel and Word Files EDM provided three powerful search functions for project engineers or designers to search information between Excel files and Word files easily. They are: • Search any information of any Excel file in any Word file • Open a Word file in EDM, select one Excel file • Double click any cell, get what you want immediately in opened Word file • Search customized text in opened Word file • Type customized text in search box • Click search button • Directly search description for any Tag Number in control narrative or philosophy • Open a control narrative or philosophy Word file in EDM • Choose “Connect Control Narrative With Tag No. In File1 or File2 • Click “Connect Control Narrative To Tag Number” to build a interconnect between Tag Number and control narrative by adding two new columns to Excel file. One is Control Narrative Document name; the other is page number on which the most description about related Tag Number is. If you did not do this operation yet. • Choose Tag Number to search, and click “Go To Page” button

Get statistics from different files EDM provided various statistical operations for different purposes, and classified in three group A. Get statistics based on two selected columns have same or different value in two files This operation is very useful to find the difference and similarity between two different versions of same files. B. Get statistics based on one selected common column’s value between two files This operation provided a possibility to get cross statistics from different files C. Get statistics based on one selected column’s value in one file This operation can pickup any typical records in one file.

Explore all files in the job from Job Tree Explore Job Tree to see a big and whole picture of the job • From Job Tree, you can know: • How many Excel files have been loaded in the job • Which file is in First or Second file folder • Which file is under modifying • Excel report of auditing • Created new Excel files in the job • Opened PDF and Word files • Statistics and files in the job
