  2. CPC/CTB & The National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) • CPC/CTB is a member of the NIDIS GIS Team • Our GIS DATA conversion is in support of Drought Monitoring • Some of our GIS products are displayed on the NIDIS portal

  3. Motivation • Many user communities would like to use CPC products in their GIS applications. • Geographic Information System (GIS) format requests are increasing rapidly. • The interoperability among GIS products makes them desirable.

  4. E-Mail from one of the Drought Monitoring Authors • “I would say I use quite a bit of CPC data when preparing the U.S. Drought Monitor (and our regular monthly State of the Climate drought reports).”  • “As a USDM author, I would find it extremely helpful if CPC products were in a GIS format that I could easily import into the USDM ArcMap project to overlay on top of the USDM map and other indicators.”

  7. NIDIS – GIS Resources • CPC GIS Data • All CPC web products that have been converted to GIS format (Shapefile and GeoTiff) are available via ftp.www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/GIS/GIS_DATA/

ArcGIS Server • The NOAA/Web Operation Center (WOC) has agreed to host CPC GIS products. • CPC will have to buy two ArcGIS licenses for the WOC – we are looking for funds • This software allows processing, extraction and display of GIS geo-referenced datasets • The server also allows distribution of metadata
