  1. WOW Nonfiction PowerPoint by: Mrs. Janes Adapted from About the Authors Writing Workshop with Our Youngest Writers By Katie Wood Ray with Lisa B. Cleaveland

  2. Ways to write WOW Nonfiction • To make my book look like someone’s journal with lots of notes and pictures taped in it. • I could create characters and a setting and a story line and use them to get my facts. • I could use illustrations that have pictures and labels that are related to my topic in the borders of my books. • I could have a list of other books and websites about my topic that readers might want to check out.

  3. Ways to write WOW Nonfiction • I could write about something by giving it a voice and letting it speak. • I could include a list of facts at the beginning or end of my book. • I could write about something in present tense like it’s happening as you are reading it. • I could include facts around my illustrations that relate to my story.

  4. Ways to write WOW Nonfiction • I could write my book so it looks and sounds like poetry. • I could have an author’s note at the end of my book that gives more facts about my topic. • I could use an afterword to share more facts about the topic of my book. • I could write my book as a whole series of “if, then” propositions for my reader to think about. • My facts could be right in my main text not set apart in

  5. Ways to write WOW Nonfiction • I could write about my topic by following it through time and/or place. • I could include a summarizing illustration at the end of my book with more facts embedded around it.
