What City Council Has Done • Submitted SNAP Plan & request for funding. • Submitted request for Pedestrian Safe Sidewalk Program funding. • Met with UDOT rep for assistance with Highway 23.
What City Council Has Done • Met with UDOT reps for assistance with railroad crossing. • Letters sent to UDOT about safety on Hwy 23. • Emails to UDOT requesting area map for new SNAP submission. (April to September)
What City Council Has Done • Developed minimal street marking plan. • Developed minimal street sign additions. • Discussed with new UDOT manager requirement for Map. • Standardized speed limits.
What City Council Has Done • UDOT Safety Training presented by City Council: • 3 sessions. • 33 children trained. • 18 parents trained.
Results • Denied SNAP funding. • Reasons: • Panel could not determine if we had sidewalks. • Funding only available for non-infrastructure items. • Needed detailed description of hazards. • Denied Safe Sidewalk Funding. • Reasons unknown.
Results • Meetings with UDOT failed to initiate results. • Letters not answered with meaningful results. • Emails to UDOT ignored. • Less than 15% of Mendon children received UDOT Safety Training
Results (Continued) • Paved 125 North to railroad tracks. • Painted street cross walks and pedestrian walk lines. (Eagle Scout Project) • Created cross walk at 125 North intersection. • Installed stop signs 125 North intersection.
Results • Installed school signs on 125 North. • Mountainside Elementary map provided by UDOT Sep 23. • Considering additional street marking. • Scheduling UDOT Traffic Engineer to make assessment of 100 East.
Problems • Children walking in all areas of street. • Children riding bikes in all areas of street. • Children confused.

Solutions • Child training by parents: • Where to walk. • Where to ride bikes. • How to walk & ride bikes on streets. • Parental checks of child behavior. • Parental follow-up training with child. • Parental example.
Solutions (Continued) • Adult Drivers: • Avoid 100 East (8:30-9:00 am & 3:20-3:40pm) • Avoid use of cell phones. • Observe speed limit. • Obey traffic signs. • No “U” Turns in streets. • Enter 125 North from County Road 5400. • Exit school to 5400. • X 20 or 25

Rules • Children: • Walk as close to white line as possible. • Walk single file. • Bikers ride next to white line. Let walkers know you are passing. • Bikers yield to walkers.
