  2. Mental maths test • Before we talk about the individual SATS papers…

  3. What are SATS? • Government requirement • Assess progress and attainment of all Y6 children against national standards (levels) • Takes place in the week beginning 12th May 2014 • Formal testing - English and Mathematics • Teacher assessments

  4. How will this affect our children? Foundation for secondary school What is the best they can achieve?

  5. SATS tests • Grammar/ spelling test • Reading test • Maths tests • Science test

  6. Mathematics at home

  7. Everyday life • Talk about pocket money with your child. Shop using money and calculate change. • Capitalise on hobbies- music charts, football… • Add number apparatus to your child's toy collection - counters, a purse full of change, dice, dominoes, a tape measure, ruler, pack of cards, timer, different shapes - and use them to make mathematics come alive. • Focus on time – 12/24 clock, bus timetable, calenders… • Cooking is great for helping your child get to know simple weights and measures. An old-fashioned set of balance scales is ideal. Count out spoonfuls of ingredients. Let your child help you set the timer and count down to teatime!

Home Learning Guidance • All work to be completed in Home Learning books • Write subtitle, title and dates • Write on key information as bullet points • Write answers in Home Learning exercise book that will be understood by marker (full answers with method) • Home learning must be signed by parents

  11. Support for your child • Numeracy and Literacy booster classes • Daily Intervention groups • Gifted and Talented Numeracy and Literacy groups • CGP revision books • Websites – BBC Bitesize, emaths.co.uk

  13. What should your son or daughter do? • Stay calm • Support with Home Learning and talk through the relevant pages • BBC Bitesize, Emaths.co.uk • Keep up! • Eat and drink well, sleep, and exercise. • Continue with other interests, eg. football, swimming etc.
