  1. Idols over God

  2. God over Idols

  3. Karna Mati Ji • Rat infested Temple • Located at Deshnok • Rats worshipped as reincarnations • Shri Karaniji goddess center of worship • Idolatry by looking at something in natural world.

  4. Serving Creature rather than Creator Romans 1:25 • for they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather then the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. • Consider idols in Bible and in our lives.

  5. Considering Idols 1. Define idols. 2. What do idols cause us to do? 3. Think about the implications today.

  6. 1. Let us define idol • Idol n. 1. A statue or picture of a god which itself is worshipped. 2. A person who is greatly admired. Origin- Greek eidolon- an image for worship; by impl. A heathen god. • How does Bible define an idol?

  7. Isaiah 44:17-18 • And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. They know not, neither do they consider: for he hath shut their eyes, they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

  8. 2. What do idols do to us? Matthew 6:24 • No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. • Mammon- riches personified, wealth, a form of idolatry.

  9. So who are we serving? Deuteronomy 4:23-28 • stone & wood • made by men • putting our work in place of God • Causes us to hate God, start serving our idols instead

  10. Puts things backwards • End up worshipping the fantasy rather than reality. Exodus 32:8 • Mistakenly worship something else and call it the True God. • We defile ourselves.

  11. 3. What’s the implication today? • Does Satan want us to serve idols? Matthew 4:9-10 • Begin to hate God and His church. • Take away from God that which He deserves and give it to something else.

  12. Today’s implications • Idols still exist • Can be other things in our lives. • We will begin to serve the work or our hands. • Service will fail and lose all that God has promised us.

  13. Lose God’s promises • A home in heaven John 14:1-3 • To become sons of God through adoption Galatians 4:3-5 • To be saved through baptism Acts 2:38
