UK AMSTEMM Majors • STEM Majors at UK include: • Agricultural Biotechnology • Biology • Chemistry • Engineering • Geology • Mathematics • Physics • Science and Mathematics Education • Minorities, Women, and Appalachian Students are seriously underrepresented in these majors Appalachian and Minority STEM Majors

AMSTEMM Numerical Goals: Increase In Years 1-5: • Appalachian STEM Applicants: 50+/yr • Minority STEM Applicants: 10+/yr • Appalachian STEM enrollees: 40+/yr • Minority STEM enrollees 7+/yr By Year 5: • Appalachian STEM graduates 30+/yr • Minority STEM graduates 5+/yr Appalachian and Minority STEM Majors

AMSTEMM Nonnumeric Goals: • Demonstrate that the provision of extensive support services for students will result in significant increases in enrollment, retention, and graduation of Appalachian, minority, and women STEM students • Provide a model for UK to institutionalize and other universities to initiate to increase STEM enrollment, retention, and graduation • Cooperate and coordinate with other KY universities with similar goals Appalachian and Minority STEM Majors

  11. Highlights of AMSTEMM Students may: • Participate in Research • Attend Bi-Weekly Research Colloquia and take a Methods Course • Take a Place-Based Discovery Seminar • Receive Extra Academic Support and Advising • Join a Living/Learning Community Appalachian and Minority STEM Majors
