  29. ALIENS Do you believe that other beings exist in the universe? If so, you believe in aliens, non-human creatures who are not from the planet Earth. In places all over the United states, Mexico, and other countries, people claim to have sighted spaceships, known as “UFOs,” carrying aliens from outer space into our planet’s atmosphere. Have you ever seen an unidentified flying object, a UFO, in the sky? Nonbelievers say these sightings are explainable phenomenon: blimps, jets, weather balloons, meteors, or maybe even our own planet’s secret aircraft. People even claim to have been abducted, taken away from Earth and into outer space by aliens, without granting their permission. Some aliens were deemed as friendly, while others caused harm to human beings.

  31. My Favorite Teacher(Written by an Early Intermediate ESL student) Mrs. Rush, who teaches English, is my favorite teacher. She always smiles and speaks to me as I am walking into her classroom. She knows everybody’s name. I am never afraid to ask questions in her room. Mrs. Rush is very patient and kind. She takes the time to explain things I do not understand. When a student gets the answer wrong, she uses the mistake as a “learning moment.” She tells me when I am doing a good job. This helps me know what I need to work on, as well as when I am doing okay. I wish all teachers could be like Mrs. Rush. This way I would make good grades in all of my classes. This year, I have learned more than any other year, all because of my nice, patient, favorite teacher, Mrs. Rush. Molly N. 5th Grade

  32. Comprehension 26. Why was Mrs. Rush Molly’s favorite teacher? • Because she was kind and patient • Because she knew everybody’s name • Because she used mistakes as “learning moments” • All of the above 27. The term “learning moment” means • “A time when a student ‘s mistake is used to teach a lesson” • “A time when the teacher knows everybody’s name” • “A time when the teacher smiles and speaks to students as they enter the classroom” • “A time when a mistake is ignored” 28. This passage infers that • Students learn better when their teachers are kind and patient. • Teachers should make mistakes out of “learning moments.” • Mrs. Rush was an English teacher. • Molly’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Rush.
