  1. SIN • First appearance of the term sin: Genesis 4:7: “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

SIN DEFINED • How does the Bible define the term? • Proverbs 10:19: When words are many, sin is not absent (vain talk) • Proverbs 14:21: He who despises his neighbor sins (contempt for others) • Proverbs 21:4: Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin! • Proverbs 24:9: The schemes of folly are sin (foolish thoughts)

SIN DEFINED • How does the Bible define the term? • Romans 14:23: Everything that does not come from faith is sin (unbelief) • See also John 1:11, 3:18, 16:8-9 • James 4:17: Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins (neglect of opportunity) • James 2:9-10: But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. (favoritism) For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. (breaking the law)

Who can understand it?

You will be defeated by your enemies’”… You came back and wept before the LORD, but he paid no attention to your weeping and turned a deaf ear to you. • ISAIAH 59:2: Your iniquities have separatedyou from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you,so that he will not hear.
