CAHSEE Requirement • All students must satisfy the CAHSEE requirement, as well as all other state and local requirements, to receive a California public high school diploma. • The CAHSEE requirement can be satisfied by passing the examination, or for eligible students with disabilities, meeting the exemption requirements pursuant to EC Section 60852.3, or receiving a local waiver pursuant to EC Section 60851(c). • Exemption extended to July 2012 (SBE approved 2/9/11)
CAHSEE Testing Opportunities • Grade ten: one time (March with May as make-up) • Grade eleven: *two times • Scheduled for November & March • Grade twelve: *at least three, but up to five times • Scheduled for November, February, & May • Adult students: *three times * May participate in successive administrations.
Before Testing • Read the responsibilities and procedures in the “test site coordinator” section of the District Test Site Coordinator’s Manual • Inform parents, students and teachers about testing schedule • Train test examiners and all other support personnel for role • Secure test materials at all times when not in use for test administration; do not remove the shrink-wrap until absolutely necessary H
Security • Test Examiners must check out and check in testing materials on each day of testing (verifying the count and signing for them) • Account for materials before dismissing students from testing room • Security Affidavits – all “contact” personnel, each administration
During Testing • Make sure that each student signs name in Box 1 • Enter the version number and the barcode number from the back of the test booklet onto the answer document in each portion of the test
Administration Reminders • Scratch paper is not allowed. • Do not allow students to use extra paper to answer their ELA writing tasks. • All responses to math and ELA items, including writing task, must be recorded with No. 2 pencil on a single answer document. • Transcribe student answers as required: • As a condition of student’s IEP or 504 Plan • Student used word processor for essay • Student used more than one answer document; transcribed into a single document
Special Education Coding • Accommodations and Modifications (Box 13) • 13 a. Student had access (grid with signature) • 13 b. Used (grid AFTER the exam) • Assessed with CAPA (Box 14) • Special Education Exit Date (Box 15)
Scheduling Makeup Testing • Record the names of Grade 10 students who missed one or both census sessions • FAX CAHSEE Absence Tracker form to 771-8672 by noon on March 9 • Plan for make-up session (May) H
After Testing • Check answer documents • Check that Box 3 Score Code is completed on every scorable answer document. (See page 63 in DTSCM)
After Testing (Continued) • Batch all answer documents are by grade with School and Grade Identification (SGID); scorables in separate box(es); “ABSENT” documents are returned as SCORABLE • Label all non-scorable precoded answer documents to indicate the reason

Administration: Train Examiners Assure understanding of role before testing Remove/Cover instructional materials directly related to the content of the tests including, but not limited to: • Tables of mathematical facts or formulas • Vocabulary or spelling lists • Writing materials such as charts that show capitalization, punctuation, or grammar rules • Phonics charts • Inappropriate history and science materials (for example, maps, timelines, periodic table of elements, formulas)
Administration: Train Examiners Distribute test materials to correct students Be very careful with similar names – Check date of birth Make sure students code correct EOC math or science test taken Make sure students code correct test version number Follow Directions For Administration (DFA) Read “Say” boxes exactly as written Students cannot go back to previous part of test

M 36, 82 California Standards Tests (CSTs) • Grades 2–11 • Unless taking CMA or CAPA • Subjects tested: • English–Language Arts (ELA): all gradeswriting for grades 4 and 7 • Mathematics: grades 2–7 and end-of-course (EOC) 7–11 • Science: grades 5, 8, 10, and EOC 9–11 • History–Social Science: grades 8, 11, and EOC 9–11

Summative High School Mathematics M 15, 81 Students in grades 9–11 will take the CST for Summative High School Mathematics if: • Previously completed Algebra I and Algebra II and Geometry courses, and completing an advanced mathematics course this year; or • Previously completed a course aligned with the Integrated Mathematics 3 test blueprint, and completing an advanced mathematics course this year; or • Previously completed Algebra I and Algebra II and Geometry courses and are taking no mathematics course this year; or • Previously completed a course aligned with the Integrated Mathematics 3 test blueprint and are taking no mathematics course this year. • Previously took the CST for Summative High School Mathematics.
M 17, 82 CST for Science • Required grade-level science • Grades 5, 8, 10: all students take the grade-level test • Grades 9–11 EOC • Based on standards-based science course completed during the school year or the previous summer, whichever is more recent • If more than one standards-based science course will be completed during the school year, the district must determine which test will be taken • Mark correct EOC test and version number on the answer document
M 16, 72, 83 Who Takes the CMA? • Students: • Have an IEP • Meet the SBE-adopted eligibility criteria • Enrolled in grades 3–11 • May take the CMA for some subjects, CST for other subjects • Must take grade-level CSTs when a CMA is not offered • May have previously taken the CMA, regardless of score • Not eligible to take the CAPA • IEP specifies the CMA and subject(s) • No modifications; if needed, take the CST
