  2. Shake Weight Ads • The shake weight is a 2.5lb spring loaded weight originally made for women to build lean muscle without the bulk. • Original Shake Weight Ad • Introduced a 5lb version for men promising muscle buildup. • Shake Weight for Men Ad

  3. Claim • Using the Shake Weight for only six minutes a day is enough to get you lean and toned arms.

  4. The Science • Dynamic Inertia: Dynamic Inertia works the muscles in the arms, shoulders and chest by constantly engaging the muscles which results in increased upper body muscle activity by more than 300% compared to traditional free weights.

  5. The Study • A “well-documented” scientific study involving the Shake Weight technology was conducted by Dr. Daniel Cipriani. • Professor at the department of Exercise Physiology at San Diego State University • Used EMG monitoring of muscle activity during use of the Shake Weight™ compared to that of similar size dumbbells during traditional dumbbell exercises. • All the major upper body muscles were measured. The study revealed that the Shake Weight™ causes over 300% more EMG activity than traditional dumbbells of the same weight.

  6. What We Found From Other Research • Shake Weight claims that they have a well documented scientific study but fail to provide it. • Shake Weight is compared with the use of a standard 2.5-pound free weight. A traditional weightlifting regimen for toning arms would gradually increase the weight well beyond 2.5 pounds. • It is hard to measure their claims of working out just 6 minutes a day. • Contradictory advertising: Claims to keep women leaner while making men bulkier.

  7. Conclusion • Doesn’t really work better than regular training. • Dynamic inertia is still unclear to researchers. • Without the right diet, no results will be obtained.
