BOE Graduation Requirements 2012 High School diploma - 25 credits with Senior Project credit BOE diploma requires Algebra I and higher, pure Science courses BOE candidates have a GPA 3.0 and higher Valedictorians must successfully complete a Senior Project Leilehua High School will recognize all Senior Project completers

    11. Purpose A “senior project” is … a rigorous high school exit requirement where students demonstrate not only what they know but also what they can do. A senior must complete a research paper, a project / product, a portfolio, and an oral presentation to a panel. The Senior Project must be a “stretch” for the student … not something that a student already knows and can do.

    12. Deadlines and Important Dates Meeting deadlines is essential to being a productive and responsible young adult. Senior Project major deadlines/important dates must be met in order for the student to successfully complete a Senior Project; failure to meet major deadlines will result in the student being counseled by his/her teacher, Mrs. Yamamoto and the Senior Project advisory panel and potentially being removed from Senior Project.

    13. Project Requirements Research paper 5 to 8 pages, MLA format Must include a variety of sources Documented in their Works Cited and Works Consulted (to be annotated) Will in most cases be a position paper Draft #1, due Friday, September 17

Project Requirements Product/Service Hours Must find a mentor by Friday, September 10 Families assist, forms in packet with requirements Must complete a minimum of 30 to 50 hours Should be related to the topic Fashion design - produce an outfit/fashion show Pediatrician - volunteer at a doctor’s office/hospital Surfing - teach water safety, volunteer lifeguard Hours completed by Friday, February 11

    15. Project Requirements Portfolio A document that demonstrates the student’s journey Including learning logs, paper, evidence of 4 Ps Portfolio due by Friday, February 18

    16. Project Requirements Oral Presentation Present their project to a panel of judges (teachers, community members, experts in the field) 5 to 10 minutes Must involve technology PowerPoint, Video, Product demo…. ORAL BOARDS: March 10 Make-up (with clearance from advisory panel March 23)
