    1. Assets and Deficits Asset: a useful or desirable quality Deficit: a disadvantage or impairment In 6 to 10 sentences explain in a thoughtful way your assets and deficits, your best and worst qualities (3-5 sentences for each of the opposing aspects of yourself). Stick to qualities about yourself that relate to success in school and beyond school as you strive to be a successful adult in the community.

    2. Example: My Assets and Deficits Though there are many aspects to my personality that I would like to change, there are a few that have continually caused me problems in my life. First I would say that my temper has always made trouble for me. It has gotten better as I age, but lying, meanness, and injustice send me over the edge.

    3. Assets and Deficits (cont.) I would list my sense of humor as both an asset and a deficit. When things are rolling, I can use my humor to get people to listen and understand a serious point I want to make. Unfortunately, when my timing is off, or when I misread a situation, my humor (which always borders on sarcasm) ruins the moment, hurts the feelings of others, and in general makes a mess of things. In order to dig my way out, however, I have learned to be a little more honest about my mistakes, and I have learned to apologize when necessary. This single ability, the ability to admit my mistakes and atone for them, is my greatest asset.
