Congratulations to your team on advancing to Global Finals! • You’re ready for your next challenge-planning your trip to Knoxville, TN. • This presentation covers tips for teams going to Global Finals. • Global Finals is AWESOME, and careful preparation will make the experience even more enjoyable.

Central Challenge-Logistics The 2005 - 2006 Global Finals will be held the last week of May in Knoxville, Tennessee. • Opening Ceremonies- Wednesday, May 24th A spectacular celebration with over 900 teams from around the world! • Competition begins Thursday, May 25th • Award Ceremonies-Saturday, May 27th • Plan to arrive Tuesday, May 23rd This will allow time for you to relax, repair sets, practice, locate competition sites, and of course, pin trading. • Global Finals week is packed with lots of fun activities!

  5. Central Challenge-Logistics How will your team get to Global Finals? Airplane Make flight reservations Make arrangements for ground transportation Drive Reserve school van or rent van Find drivers Calculate mileage and time to drive Make enroute motel reservations if necessary How will your set and props get to Global Finals? Rent or borrow cargo van or truck Find drivers Determine if you need to break down or reconfigure your set and props to fit in van or truck

Central Challenge-Cost Estimates SAMPLE COST ESTIMATE FOR 7 MEMBER TEAM • Essential Elements • Global Finals Package-Meal and Lodging Tuesday evening through Saturday evening at $510 per person plus team manager $4.080 • Gas for team school van and set and prop cargo van 900 • Rental of cargo van 300 • Motel rooms for team and drivers one night each way 250 • Optional Elements • Originally designed Team pins for trading $ 420 • DollyWood tickets $50 per person plus team manager 400 • State pins for trading at $50 per person 350 • Spending money at $150 per person 1,050 Total estimated cost for team $7,750

Central Challenge-Fundraising • Start Early! • Fundraising Ideas • Sell DI Star Bar candy bars • Sell suckers • Work school concession stand • Local festival food concession stand • Labor auction (auction off team members to work 3 hours) • Raffle donated items or function such as a pool party for 15 people • Make raffle tickets • Request donated items • Ask to use a pool, lake cabin, or other recreational facility • Determine place and time of drawing • Design team T shirt with names of donating sponsors listed on shirt • Assign sponsor donation request list to each team member • Prepare written letter explaining DI and Global Finals for prospective donors Estimated profits from fundraising $5,000

  8. Central Challenge-Fundraising This is an example of a DI team shirt design. This team raised over $1,200 from sponsor donations recognized on the back of this shirt. FRONT BACK

Side Trips-Pin Trading • Pin trading is a traditional activity at Global Finals. • It’s a great way to meet people from other teams. • A towel works well as a pin display holder. • Your team can design their own team pin, and/or buy pins from the state affiliate to trade. • This is an activity you won’t want to miss!

  10. Side Trips-Global Final Activities • There are a lot of organized activities, as well as “on your own” things to do and explore. Whether it’s the organized closing party, or frolicking through the fountains, you will always find a way to have fun!

  11. Side Trips-Fun things to do in and around Knoxville While on a trip to nearby Gatlinburg, this team found themselves in a haunted house and the Hard Rock Café.

  12. Side Trips-Fun things to do in and around Knoxville • Along the riverfront by the University campus in Knoxville, there are plenty of waterfalls and spouts to cool your team off.

  13. Side Trips-Fun things to do in and around Knoxville • DollyWood is filled with fun and adventurous rides. Only a hour away from Knoxville, it is the perfect outing for all teams to enjoy. • Make sure to buy your tickets early at Global Finals because Destination ImagiNation members receive discounted tickets.

FINAL TIPS FOR GLOBAL FINALS • Start Planning and fundraising early. • Assign tasks with deadlines-make sure to meet them! • Bring cameras with plenty of memory (or film) to take pictures. • Make sure to pick up the Global Finals Daily News for information on events and happenings. • Above all, HAVE FUN!!
